Linux and Symbian, Japan's NTT DoCoMo ont décidé d'investir 3 millions de dollars dans Montavista software qui développe une version mobile de linux. L'article ( en anglais ) dans la suite.

The Inquirer :

"SHOWING JUST HOW seriously it is taking its decision to concentrate on two platforms - Linux and Symbian, Japan's NTT DoCoMo has decided to sink $3 million in its Linux supplier, Montavista software.

It's intriguing to see who else has invested in Montavista (a total of $75 million to date). Investors include handset suppliers like Siemens, Samsung, Sony, Panasonic Toshiba, and Ericsson. There's a whole bunch of VCs too as well as the China Development Industrial Bank. But what's this? Chipmakers Infineon, IBM Microelectronics, and Yamaha. Plus Intel, of course.

Why bother to invest? Well, apparently the stake will enable DoCoMo to "efficiently improve and develop" its Linux products. What's more Montavista provides a version of Linux aimed at Telcos and DoCoMo is rumoured to be considering using that version too.

What with Palm porting to Linux and LG using Savaje, the Linux camp is building momentum. Incidentally did you know that British firm Amstrad is using Montavista for its fixed line videophone too? "
